DEATH AND DYING IN THE ICU: PATIENT AND FAMILY INTERACTIONS

OVERVIEW

The presenting faculty will discuss neuroanesthesia specifically in regards to peri-operative risk evaluation and management. Only AANS and SNS members are eligible for CME credit.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

Upon completion of this educational activity, participants should be able to:

  1. Identify current problems with palliative and end-of-life care in the ICU setting
  2. Explain the differences between palliative care, end-of-life care, and withdrawal of life support in the ICU
  3. Review recent advances concerning communication with patients and families in the ICU

CME CREDIT

Term of approval is for three years, until 03.27.2012, from beginning distribution date of 03.27.2009, with option of renewal upon review of the activity.

After completing the activity, AANS members will be able to take a CME test by logging onto MyAANS.org. Upon successful completion of the test, the CME will automatically be reflected in your record and you can print a certificate.

Time to complete this activity varies by learner. For this activity you may earn up to 0.5 AMA PRA Category 1 Creditâ„¢.
